On-site Services for Students with IEPs
Student Service Corps:
Children in all grades will have opportunities to perform community service within the school. Students and their families will participate in drives and programs that will help people in need. With each drive or social action, students and their families will engage in conversations about the importance of helping others and raising awareness and funds for good causes. These events correlate directly to The New York State Common Core Standards in speaking and listening. It is our goal to put forth students who actively engage in their community, show good citizenship, and eloquently lead others to do the same.

Meet the Writer/Artist Program
Our program fosters a lifelong love of literacy and the arts through one-on-one interactions with living authors, illustrators, poets, and musicians. Four to six artists visit each calendar year to share their original work as well as their inspiration and creative process. Students study, in-depth, each artist's body of work fostering discussion, interpretation, inquiry, and imagination. The program is run by the Brooklyn Poet Laureate.

Together in Dance - PS 118 Creative Movement Residency
Creative movement residencies engage students in the process of dance-making as they develop an understanding of dance. Emphasis is on developing dance literacy, exercising the body and mind, using dance as a lens to examine curriculum, and fostering collaboration amongst students. Students engage in the choreographic process by creating movement, sharing ideas, and performing for peers and teachers for feedback.
Studio in a School:
Students will participate in 14 - week residencies where they explore painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, collage, media-tech, or 2-D applied design. Students discover they can express themselves in new ways through manipulating art materials. They find new solutions for artistic and intellectual challenges. As they learn to work independently and collaboratively in a new language, they often discover important insights about themselves. Each student creates art that reflects his or her unique set of artistic skills and interests, engaging critical thinking as well as creativity. Students respond to a wide range of stimuli and themes and use memory, observation, and imagination to create art works that showcase their individuality. Students learn how to create art – and so much more. They learn to use artists’ tools, hone their technical and expressive skills, and develop vocabulary to describe their intentions and explain their choices as they persevere and solve problems through a multi-step process. They learn to envision an idea and develop it. Making art gives students the confidence to further pursue their creativity. For more information, please click on the button below.
