Arrival Procedures
School begins at 8:20 a.m. for all students. Note that all children are entitled to come to the cafeteria for free breakfast from 7:50-8:15. All kindergarten, first and second grade students will line up in the yard with their designated teacher at 8:20. Teachers should escort their class to the rooms no later than 8:25. Third- fifth graders go up on their own from 8:15-20. They will quietly wait outside the classroom until they’re invited into the classroom by their teachers. Please note, that parents may not enter the building through the back door. Only teachers and students may use this door. Exceptions to this is when there are classroom celebrations, or when a parent is doing something for the school. If it’s not a school wide celebration, please alert the school safety officer and administration so that parents are not turned away from the front/back doors. If parents wish to go to the office they need to walk around to the front desk and check in with the school safety officer, Mr. Bruno.
Pre-K students will enter the building through the front door on 8th street. They will enter at 8:20 and escort their children to the classroom. All Pre-K parents should leave the classroom by 8:35 and exit the building through the front door. Pre-k students will be marked late after 8:35.
K-5th grade students who receive breakfast will be escorted to the first floor at the close of breakfast. They will wait at the first floor landing with the adult stationed there until their class goes past. Student(s) should go upstairs or outside by themselves during breakfast time, as their teacher may not be present. Pre-K students are escorted to their classrooms by the adult working breakfast duty. Students in grades 3-5 will go to classrooms on their own.

Dismissal
Teachers should include on parent forms information about who has permission to pick up the child. Please make a note for subs of any particular information they will need about dismissal. All teachers: if you are the last teacher in the building after dismissal, please close the door behind you.
Prekindergarten students are picked up directly from their classrooms. It is imperative that teachers in these grades keep close track of who is picking up children and establish a routine so that no one is permitted to leave the room (even with an appropriate adult) without giving some signal to the teacher.
Kindergarten through fifth grade are dismissed from the backyard. Especially during the first weeks of school, this exit is very crowded. As teachers come out of the building, they should move to their designated pick up areas. It is essential that teachers keep a close watch on their students and have a signal that the children give before leaving. Children who are not picked up on time are to be escorted by the teacher to the office and left in the care of either Margaret or the secretary.
In the event of inclement weather, such as rain or snow, dismissal will still be done from the yard. There is not enough room in our school to dismiss in a separate location. Please inform parents that dismissal will always be from the yard, even during inclement weather. Parents should send appropriate gear if the weather is expected to be bad (i.e. umbrella, rain boots, snow boots, etc).
Bean Sprouts and other after school organizations pick up students from the classroom. They should be picked up no earlier than 2:35. Children should not go to these programs on their own.
If a child needs to leave school before the regular dismissal time, please note that the parent/guardian coming to pick up the child must come to the main office to sign the child out. Children may not be dismissed early without an adult picking them up.
In your communications to parents, please emphasize their responsibility to arrange for prompt pickup of children at 2:40PM. You can refer parents to a list of after school programs that will be posted in the Parent Center.
