PS 118 students are offered a variety of art based residencies, as well as other enrichment programs depending on their grade.
Studio in A School
Studio in a School fosters the creative and intellectual development of New York City youth through quality visual arts programs, directed by arts professionals. The Residency Program is offered to all students in grades K-5. It offers students the chance to explore painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, collage, media-tech, or 2-D applied design. Students learn to explore different artistic points of view while using quality art materials. Each residency is approximately 6-10 weeks long. At PS 118, each grade receives one Studio in a School residency per year. Some of the work done by students at PS 118 have been featured at the renowned Christie's art studio in Manhattan. Take a look!
Dance Advance
Students in grades K-2 participate in the Dance Advance program with Mr. Marc Herstein. Dance Advance is an Educational Dance Party with a twist of French language, cultural music fusion, and exciting challenges. All students in grades K-2 receive 8-10 weeks of fun with Mr. Marc!
Brooklyn Conservatory of Music
Our band program is offered to all interested 4th and 5th grade students, whether they have played an instrument or not. The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music oversees this
program and provides the teachers, all of whom are professional musicians. Children are provided with high quality instruction and loaned an instrument to use for the school year. Students are taught in ensemble groups: clarinets, flutes, percussion and trumpets. The year-long program culminates in a concert for families to attend.
Meet the Writer/Artist Program
Our program fosters a lifelong love of literacy and the arts through one-on-one interactions with living authors, illustrators, poets, and musicians. Four to six artists visit each calendar year to share their original work as well as their inspiration and creative process. Students study, in-depth, each artist's body of work fostering discussion, interpretation, inquiry, and imagination. The program is run by the Brooklyn Poet Laureate.
Co-Chairs: Sarah Glacel and Clare McGowan
If you are interested in assisting in the program or if you are a writer/artist querying about a school visit, please contact the chair of the committee for more information.
