Report Cards
- Students in PreK will receive narrative report cards for all three marking periods. This type of report card is a summary of the students progress written in paragraph form.
- Students in grades K-2 will receive narrative report cards for the first marking period (November). They will receive NYC DOE report cards that use performance level indicators (1-4 scale) for marking periods 2 and 3 (March and June).
- Students in grades 3-5 will receive NYC DOE report cards that use performance level indicators (1-4 scale) for all three marking periods.
The performance level grading on the NYC DOE report cards focuses on a student’s progress towards meeting grade level standards. The performance levels are determined by each student’s performance or demonstration of the standard. Below is a general description of each performance level.
Performance Level | Description |

4 | Student demonstrates a thorough understanding and consistently applies the content/skill in a variety of contexts independently. The student exceeds expectations of the grade level benchmark. |
3 | Student demonstrates an understanding and consistently applies the content/skill in a variety of contexts with minimal support from the teacher. The student meets the expectations of the grade level benchmark. |
2 | Student demonstrates an understanding but inconsistently applies the content/skilland/or requires support from the teacher. The student is progressing toward meeting the expectations of the grade level benchmark. |
1 | Student demonstrates limited understanding of the concepts/skill and/or requires substantial support from the teacher. The student does not yet meet the expectations of the grade level benchmark. |
Report cards are sent home with students in a sealed envelope the day before parent/teacher conferences. We suggest that the report card be handled first by the parent. It is a family decision how/if you talk to your child about the report card.
